Natural Hair - Maintenance

A lot of people have been asking me.  "What do you use on your hair? to keep it healthy? How can i go natural?"
WELLLLLL... here is my story:

In 2009 I decided to go natural. I  DID NOT chop off all of my relaxed hair.  I wore my hair under a sew - in.  Every 2-3 months i took the weave down to see how my hair was growing, and if it was time for the BIG CHOP.  I would let my hair rest in between sew ins for about a week or so and in that time i would deep condition and trim my hair.  then back to the sew-in i would go.  In 2011 I said it was time for the CHOP. I chopped all the relaxed ends and wore my hair!  It was hard to adjust to but i got so many compliments i started to get comfortable, next thing I know, people around me were ready to do the same.

Today, my hair is healthier, when i want to wear it str8 i can flat iron it and it has more flexibility than it did when it was relaxed.  Since its not relaxed i'm more comfortable with using permanent color in my hair, and have noticed that it is more vibrant (curly or str8) than color ever was in my hair when it was relaxed.

But one thing i don't want to get misconstrued, you cant do NOTHING and expect for your hair to be nice.  you have to deep condition, trim every 6 weeks and scarf it @ night (depending on the length) if you want it to grow and be versatile.

Please be advised: my results may not be common,  everyone has a different curl pattern and may have to choose a different path in order to go natural (exp: may have to start from scratch and cut hair prior to going natural depending on the damage done previously, BUT sew-ins are an attractive option as well)  You may need to contact your hair care professional in order to get your desired results.

My natural hair is so easy to take care of.  I use the following products:
SheaMoisture deep conditioner treatmeant
twisted sista curl spray
Olive Oil edge control
the above products can be found @ any drug store or supermarket

When I want to flat iron my hair I use:
Mizani Thermasmooth Shampoo and Conditioner and thermal protectant
Itsa10 w/ keratin leave in conditioner
Yellowbird Blow Dryer w/ comb attachment
Babyliss Flat Iron w/ titanium plates (ceramic is not as good as titanium on natural hair)
Nairobi Sheer Shine
#allinthat order.
I can go for about 2 weeks with my hair still straight
*the above products can mostly be found @ Armstrong McCall stores only.  Contact myself or another Haircare Professional for details

When I color my hair I fiddle faddle (country i know) between:
Scruples - especially good for gray coverage
Matrix SoColor- awesome vibrant color line
*Professional color lines found @ Armstrong McCall or your Professional Hairstylist.

Again results may not be common or products may not be for you in particular, For a full consultation personalized for you curl pattern, contact me :-)

This isnt intended to defer anyone from getting a relaxer (as i still have clients that love relaxers) but if you always wanted to go natural and were afraid to try, #JUSTDOIT :-)
